Day #3

1200GMT Thur Dec 5 2013 15-44.3'N 28-16.1'W

Air temperature.. 28 degrees Celsius (83 Fahrenheit!)

Day #3 Daily run was 83nm in the last 24 hours all by sail... averaging 3.5 knots... so pretty slow going as we work SW in the hunt for wind. Departure forecast made it clear that the wind wasn't going to come to us in the Cape Verdes, so we are headed SW to about 15N30W and then will follow the great circle route west to Antigua. We have now sailed 194nm with something like 1,950 to go! Spirits are high among the crew, no signs of mutiny, hot weather so the awning in the cockpit is a major plus. We have been sailing mostly with just the asymmetrical spinnaker, without the main is is staying full in the sub 10 knot breeze. Nice lunch today, with pear ad cheese course - tasty Vermont Shepard Cheese (Thank you Phoebe for the gift and Mary for the delivery) - Christopher

It is fun out here in the middle of the ocean. It is a little weird, not being able to see land for so long. We have a lot of things to do, such as board games, cards, art projects, and listening to books and music.I am enjoying myself now but I bet I will be bored toward the end. There isn't much wind so we are kind of bobbing around. Last night I got up at 2 am to look at stars with my Mom, there were tons and there was absolutely no lght pollution. - Porter

I have been enjoying the last few hot days. We have played more games, fished, and listened to musics. the wind has been really light and we have sailed less than a 100 miles per day - That is not that much! At this rate it will take us over 20 days to cross the Atlantic! It is nice to sail with Aunt Mary because her company is fun and having another watch person means we all get more sleep. We nobody is sleeping we get to crank the music as high as we want and we dance (like nobody is watching or listening...) Overall I think we are going to have a pretty good time. - Jack Rabbit

Having a wonderful time. Tropical weather, calm seas, 10 knot winds the last 72 hours... making for a tortoise like pace. On watch 4am - 8am with beautiful pastel sunrises, and again 2-4pm with wild dance parties led by a nine year old DJ.Looking for wild., lots of love to all - Mary Barnes

It is hot.Listening to the Messiah helps me feel like it almost Christmas and cool. Looking forward to more wind. Having Mary with us means Christopher and I get enough sleep. And her company is outstanding. - Molly
