On my brother's birthday we hiked all over the island, Isla
Cies. What really caught my eye and made my heart feel great was two different forests
full of trees. The trees in the first one had shed their bark and were really
tall. The sun down through the branches was light and made me feel the best happiness.
The branches were high off the ground and at the very top of the tree. Without
low branches, the trees looked very hard to climb.
The old bark of the tall trees lay across the ground like a huge
tan and brown blanket. My theory is that they want to grow tall and get
sunlight without being interfered with. Other plants would have to break
through the hard layer of bark on the ground. Grass and weeds would not be
stiff enough to break through the blanket. And they can't grow under the shade
of the bark and even the shade of the trees because those plants need sunlight.
Also I noticed that the trees in the other forest hadn't adapted to shedding
bark and had plants and things growing underneath them. I looked back and forth
between the two types of forests and saw that the trees that do not shed bark
had weeds, plants, and lots of sunlight at the base of their trunks. They also
had low branches.
Thinking about these pretty forests and talking about them
with my parents made me feel as if I could find out more wonders of the world. It
really boosted my spirit .This shows what great things happen when you pay
attention to the outdoors. – Jack Rabbit
