Home

Today is September 19. Most notably, I think, is that it is Porter's 11th birthday. To celebrate, we spent most of the day walking and exploring Isla Cies, which is part of the national park system in Spain. I think both boys will end up blogging about elements of the day so I will leave that to them.

Today is also the three-month mark. On June 19, Peter Kernan (affectionately known to our family as PK), drove us to the Denver airport to begin our adventure. I remember in those first few days on Sila how nice it was to have some familiar objects. At the time, we noted that it helped to have "things from home" with us. We took comfort in the red and white striped dish towel hanging on the settee that used to hang on the oven handle in Leadville. The decorative pillows that the Icaza family gave us reminded us of quiet mornings sitting on the couch with a cup of coffee, admiring the alpine glow on Elbert and Massive. The fish pillow was waiting in Porter's cabin and Crum, the monkey, hung on Jack's fan. As we begin our fourth month, things have changed.

About a week ago, we were exploring a town late in the afternoon on a day when Jack had not been feeling well. About five minutes into the walk, he asked me "Can we just stay home tonight?" It felt like a remarkable shift had just happened. In his moment of discomfort and without thinking about it, he demonstrated what has been happening for all of us. Sila is becoming home. – Molly

  1. Admiration, awe, inspired, excited and intrigued are only few of the thoughts that come into my mind when I think about your family adventure. Leaving Leadville was bittersweet for us, but you have demonstrated the “True Grit” and determination that Leadville life is all about. Safe travels and enjoy the adventure. Howard & Chris Tucker
