A Visit from a Friend

Rowing to a little island near our anchorage, running around while playing kick the can, and playing cards are all fun, but they are even more fun when you do them with old friends. This is especially true when you have not seen them in two years.

We recently met up with a good buddy, Zander Bertonneau, who is traveling in Europe this summer with his parents and his younger sister Sophia. We were lucky enough to cross paths with them here in Norway.

His mom Kristal, Sophia, and Zander stayed with us for two nights in a few different anchorages. Zander and I have been friends since kindergarten and it was a relief to spend time with someone I knew so well. I did not have to make a friendship from scratch or find out what we have in common. They are from Leadville and we had spent a good portion of our lives together, so I was comfortable to talk freely and relate, which was also nice. In addition, I was glad that it gave me a connection to Leadville, a place I still miss.
This is Zander, Porter, and I. There were light winds so we had to motor, but I think Zander still enjoyed steering.
This is Kristal and Sophia. We were all happy to see them.
In the second place we stopped, we were at a dock on the island of Magerøya. Zander, Sophia, Porter and I went crabbing off the dock and caught two crabs and this starfish.

There is nothing like seeing old friends. I look forward to the next adventure with Zander and his family.-JackRabbit
