Christmas

Merry Christmas from Sila!

We have enjoyed a wonderful holiday in Puerto Williams, Chile. For Christmas Eve, we continued our tradition of enjoying a cheese fondue for dinner. This time, we were joined by Matt and his dog Oscar, who have become good friends in these last few months. This morning, the boys brought coffee and full stockings (Santa Claus managed to find us way down here!) to us so we all piled into our bed and opened presents.

While we have historically gone skiing on Christmas Day, today we climbed a nearby mountain, Cerro Bandera, which gave us a lovely view back to the north over Puerto Williams, the Micalvi where Sila is tied up, and across the Beagle Channel to the striking mountains of Tierra del Fuego in Argentina. We could not ask for a better day. Unfortunately, wea re back in the land of super slow wifi so I cannot include the photos from the summit or of our little Christmas tree.

A Christmas Poem for Daddy, from Jack Rabbit

Even though the math
Takes an hour forty-five
And no pet like a puppy
On the boat can live and thrive

Even though the coffee
Evaporates in your hand
And on Sila helicopters
Have not a place to land

Even though the boat
Is not fit to burst with candy
And no video games
Are here and really handy

Even though you never
Took me sailing 'round the world
Wait... yes!
That adventure has unfurled

You've let me swim in waters
That are quite as clear as air
And you DO deal out brownies
In a number that is fair

You give me all the love
That you have to give
I treasure that most of all
And what a life I live.
