Tonight we celebrated our one year anniversary with flourless chocolate cake for dessert. On June 20, 2013,we arrived in France and spent our very first night on Sila. It is difficult to believe both that it has already been one year and also that it has only been one year as so much as happened but the time has flown by. We have sailed over 9000 miles in these first 12 months and expect our odometer to pass 10,000 before the 4th of July.
Over dinner we reminisced about some of our favorite places and moments from the year. Some of the highlights include drying out the boat for the first time near Isle d'Err; the bike ride around Isle d'oushant; crossing the Atlantic, arriving in the Canary Islands, eating Padron peppers for the first time near Finisterre, Jack's scooter adventure on Isle de Batz , snorkeling in the BVI, visits from good friends and family, the songs that have become the soundtrack for our lives on board. I could continue as we laughed and talked for 30 minutes about the various highlights of the first year.
Without a doubt, we are ready for year number two and whatever adventures lay in store for us. It is fitting that we are in the Pacific Ocean now. Porter has written a great post about our transit of the Panama Canal, which in many ways marks the end of the first year. When we have a good wifi signal, we will upload it with a bunch of pictures of that particular milestone.
To everyone who takes the time to read and comment on the blog or send emails to us directly- we all thank you for your interest and for sharing this journey with us, albeit from afar. I hope we can continue to entertain you in the 2nd year. Cheers~ Molly
