What is Seasickness?

Seasickness is frustration
A chain to the cockpit floor
Disgusting and embarrassing
Unhelpful and no fun

Seasickness is a trick
Misery that feels endless
But passes anyway
No fun in the present or future

Seasickness is a stairway
A misery that starts each passage
A boost to happy sailing
A necessary beginning

Seasickness is a good story
A time to puke and rally
And laugh about tomorrow
A strange experience to remember

Seasickness is sly
Striking suddenly
And makes you experience the deck
And is different every time

Seasickness is frustration
A trick, a stairway, a good story
And even sly, but
Seasickness will always stop.-Porter

Ed. Note: Today is Day 9 of our passage from Puerto Rico, bound for New York City. Like so many previous passages, our first couple of days offshore were rough with steep, uncomfortable seas. Hence the inspiration for this poem! Now that we all have our sea legs, we are enjoying this final big passage of our adventure on Sila and are especially happy to have Christopher's sister Mary with us. While we are 175 miles offshore, we are now past Cape Hatteras and if all goes well, we will sail by the Statue of Liberty in a couple of days.
