The sun behind the snowy peaks
Makes diamonds of the sea
And these bright white jewels and gems
Strike the world with great beauty
The howls of the many mounds
Which lay resting on the shore
Call a Fur Seal to its mother
By shriek, bray, bark, or roar
But out across the gleaming diamonds
Is a fluffy ripping mist
Grey in its own long shadow
Floating gently and with bliss
It is amazing what I see
The sights enough alone
But South Georgia has more wonders
than I ever would have known
Editor's note: We have been anchored in Cobblers Cove for the last couple of nights (54°16.7'S 36°18.0'W) so that we could walk over the ridge into the next bay and to Rookery Point, home to a Macaroni Penguin colony. Tomorrow we will head back to Grytviken and begin our preparations to sail offshore and north- ultimately bound for the Cape Verde Islands. While our time in South Georgia is winding down, this place continues to inspire awe and wonder in each of us, as expressed in the Rabbit's poem above.
