1. Of course, I am thankful for being here in Patagonia. The views when hiking are spectacular and beautiful. A few days ago, we went through a truly astounding fjord. Today it was rainy but when we were going into the harbor, it was just damp. I came on deck and watched as we went by huge granite cliffs and domes with a few mossy slopes. Waterfalls ran down the sides of the mountains into the fjord. It has been really cool here in Patagonia.
2. I am also thankful for having a brother like Porter. Twerpy as he is at most times, he can be amusing and likable, and it is fun to be with him. Porter is always willing to go into the forward cabin and have fun wrestling on the bed, if he is not reading. Mind you, he always seems to be reading. In addition, it is fun to write things about him, such as: Porter is a big fat loaf of regurgitated cat chow whose head smells and looks like a baboon's back side that took a bath in the sewer.
3. I am thankful for having parents like Mama and Daddy. Which child gets to sail around half the planet with loco parents like Christopher and Molly Barnes? Loco but cool and the best parents I'll ever have. Starting a wilderness school in Colorado, sailing across oceans, running a 100 miles, going up the mast 60 feet above the pitching and rolling deck, and putting up with two brothers that call Mama and Daddy their parents, are all things that my great parents do. Cool but totally loco.
4. I am thankful that we have had a lack of disasters. No limbs or bones have been broken, Sila has not been inflicted with any major damage, and nobody has gone overboard unintentionally. Basically, no really bad things have happened-yet.(I said yet so I did not put a jinx on us)
5. I am thankful that I have seen and done so many amazing things. I am a lucky child. - Jack Rabbit
Ed. Note: We are currently anchored in Caleta Brecknock at 54°32.7'S 71°54.6'W. This is a stunning place. We intend to stay here a couple of days and explore the area around the anchorage which is on the very far western end of Tierra del Fuego. We are also in Parque Nacional Alberto de Agostini. I am looking forward to being able to share pictures of this area on the blog- just a few more weeks!
