I walked back from the foredeck. I was in the cockpit when
David asked me to spin some tunes. I went down below to get the iPod and
speaker. I found the iPod and speaker, but not the cord. Suddenly, I heard Porter
say:"is it a mahi-mahi?
"What was a mahi-mahi?" I asked myself as I
climbed back up into the cockpit. Porter and Daddy were reeling in a fish that Porter
had just caught. They pulled it out of the water and Daddy started to filet the
fish. It actually was a mahi-mahi.
As daddy was filleting it, Gina yelled,
"Dolphin! A dolphin is right there!"She pointed to the water on the port side, just forward of
the cockpit. Then, it appeared on the starboard side. Its fin surfaced and then
disappeared as it dove down. We turned our attention to the fish again.
"That is four fish we have caught," I said. One while crossing the
Atlantic, one on the sail between Statia and Saba, one while going to Anegada,
and one now. The one Porter caught on the trip to Anegada, we threw back
because it was too small to keep.
Ten minutes later, we ate the mahi-mahi. It was served raw
on a plate with lemon juice. The fish really was delicious. And I thought it
was satisfying that Porter had caught another fish. I say satisfying because it
is a great accomplishment for Porter who is really into fishing. I am proud of
my brother and I was glad to eat a fresh, home-caught mahi-mahi.
After we ate the fish, Daddy found the cord and
I played some entertaining music for everyone in the cockpit. To me, the music
felt like a small celebration for catching a fish. – Jack Rabbit
