A Warrior – Not Really

Porter and I like laundry clothespins. My favorite reason is because we can build with them. We make swords, guns, small cars, small planes, and all sorts of things.
Yesterday I made clothespin clip armor for one of our stuffed animals. Okay, we have a few stuffed animals. One is named Crum. He is a reddish brown orangutan with long arms, too long even for a monkey. Crum has Velcro hands and feet, so he can hang.

I made armor by clipping clips to each other to make a breast plate. Then clips on his sides, over his shoulders, and through his legs connected to a piece of armor on his back. Crum's helmet is a red glove with the pinky finger hanging down to cover his nose, like a Greek helmet. Clips link together to form a sword.

I pretend Crum is a Greek warrior performing his heroic acts to save his country. Making pretend catapults and having Crum deflect the projectiles is fun too. Once Crum's armor is on, I lose my senses, and plunge deep into my imagination. Other stuffed animals fight Crum but never win. I create my own world where stuffed animals come to life and build their own nation. Part of why I like dressing Crum up in Greek armor is because I have enjoyed learning about the history and mythology of Greece and Rome. The clips really do come to good use. Besides hanging laundry to dry, I can really entertain myself well with them. – Jack Rabbit

  1. Good thing Crum is so well-protected. Has he ever taken a ride on the catapult?
