Humming as it races the wind.
The flat level surface is kicked up.
The monster's one leg
Moves its three feet quickly.
Ignoring the moving hills
Its head raises higher.
Its master twists its arm
Making it madder.
It growls, barely touching the ground
Suddenly it slows down,
Letting the wind catch up.
The beast's belly needs more to drink.
Porter and I laugh
"Lets do that again!"
We speed away
The dinghy growling once more.
I wrote this poem in English class when we were learning
about metaphors, similes and personification in poetry. I chose to use
personification, which is giving human or physical qualities to an object,
animal, or idea. The poem is about a dinghy ride Porter and I had the day
before the English class. It was the first time that Porter and I got to ride
the dinghy by ourselves with the motor. It was a fun adventure because we went
fast and did lots of turns. – Jack Rabbit
This might be my favorite poem of all time. Love you! Aunt Emily
