American Kids

Earlier this week we were anchored beside Ilha da Culatra with another American boat, Abracadabra from Woody Creek, Colorado. There were two kids that lived on that boat, Jabez and Anneleize.

It was really fun to hang out with them because they were a lot like Porter and me. They live on a boat just like we do and enjoy sailing.

We (as in Porter, Jabez, Anneleize, and I) have the same adventurous spirits. We like swimming, exploring, and talking about our past, ideas, and activities we have done. The four of us were like gears- we turn into each other and work effectively instead of getting out of alignment. If we had another five hours to play, we made plans easily. Together we played on paddle boards, sailed their Opti (a small sailing dinghy), dug clams, swung on halyards, and did lots of things together. It was pretty fun.

I also think the fact that they are Americans made it more fun. I'm saying they understand the culture of the U.S. and how we do things. Actually, they liked many of the same books, movies, and ideas so we had a lot to talk about. They even lived in Salida for a few months, which is about fifty miles away from Leadville.

From hanging out with Jabez and Anneleize, I learned more different ways to live and play on a boat. Since they have lived on a boat for almost their entire lives, it makes me want to live on Sila for at least another few years. -Jack Rabbit

  1. What fun to find other kids your age to hang out with, and from Colorado! And living on a boat!
