Isle d'Ouessant
July 26th was one of our most enjoyable days. We had gone out to Isle d'Ouessant - a 20 kilometer long island off the northwest coast of Brittany- where we rented bikes and rode all over the island visiting a museum that showed life on the island in the 15 and 16th centuries (what!!?), a lighthouse museum, an exhibit about endangered black honeybees, several cool beaches. We ate 2 lunches of baguette and cheese and apple (Porter often remembers specific days and events by associating them with meals). And then we went swimming at an amazing beach with some good body surfing. If this was not enough, it was followed by a very close encounter with a dolphin that hung around the transom and actually followed christopher in the dinghy to pick us up at the beach then came back with us and hung around the transom for 20+ minutes. The dolphin was so close we could have touched. - Molly
