Not Another Passage!

Before we started, I really did not want to go on this passage. And the night before we left, that was all I could think about. I did not want to be stuck on the boat, and I didn't want to always be moving. I did not want to be sea sick or bored all the time. Mama has banned the word bored, so I should say- I did not want to have trouble entertaining myself. In short, I was sick of being offshore, and did not want to do it more.

Mama reminded me that this was what we had to do to go to places like South Georgia, the Galapagos, and Rapa Nui (Easter Island). And I think it is worth it. What if we had not seen the Giant Tortoises, or the hundreds of Moi? What if we had never seen the two hundred thousand King Penguins on South Georgia? For this passage, we are headed to the Azores and Ireland, Scotland then on to Norway. Each of these places will hold its fair share of amazing things.

Mama also noted me that this passage is likely to better than the previous one. We will probably have a better wind situation, which will speed us up. When we go fast, the motion is less jerky and rough. Also, this passage will be shorter, and less tiring. A new crew member is nice too. We can retell stories and jokes and have new conversations.

After this conversation, I felt much better about this passage. And it seems that writing about it helps too because it helps me realize Iw as focusing on only the bad things, not the optimistic perspective. It may only be the third day on this passage with ten or so left to go, but compared to the last passage, that is only a jiffy. - Jack Rabbit

  1. "Everything looks like failure in the middle." Have you ever baked a cake? About halfway through it's just a ball of goo and, if you're like me, your hands are a mess too. But after a little shaping, a little baking, a little waiting, you have something wonderful. These are significant times in your life and your journal is a priceless record. Your readers are living it with you thanks to your writing and I am impatient to get to Scotland and Norway. You will see...there's something historic and beautiful on the waves and, the best is yet to come.
