We have been in the Azores for about a week now. I have been having a great time, enjoying the various things that only these Islands can bring. It is nice to be back in Europe again (the Azores are a part of Portugal). There are narrow cobbled streets, lots of little grassy parks, and red roofed buildings with tiny balconies, overlooking the street. Every morning, Porter and I walk to the store and get fresh bread for breakfast. All of this reminds me that we are in Europe again. There are also quite a few churches, scattered amongst the sea of red roofed, white walled houses. It is very different from the culture in Mindelo. The sidewalks also differ from the ones in the Cape Verdes. They are very decorative. There are designs and patterns along the walk way, livening the bland feeling.
In this photo, you can see one of the town's churches, a lovely little park and a pattern in the sidewalk

I have a good view of the town from Sila, as it slopes away, and, like I said, it seems European. From my past experience, I have concluded that Europe also has a good food selection. I am definitely glad to be back!

The weather, however, does not echo my happy mood. It has rained a lot in the last few days, on and off. As I write, the sky is pouring water over a foggy Horta. I wish the rain would stop, but it is a steady downpour today.
A selfie as I huddle under our huge umbrella while looking for photographs to take for this blog post.
This rain prevents us from painting on the wharf. Almost every yacht that comes here, to this marina, paints a design on the quay. It is most often the name of the boat, the crew, the year, and a picture or pattern about the boat. We need the rain to clear up so we can do ours. Sadly, the sky looks like it has no instant intention to clear up.
Despite the rain, I am glad that we are here. With excellent food, and a few explorations, I have been enjoying our stay. - Jack Rabbit
